Answers To Hosting Questions

Back

1.  A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.yourname.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software.  With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however, you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (you@yourname.com) and by your own personal email address domain name. (you@yourname.com).
Back  2.  Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP).  If you need FTP, Telnet, Mail or other Internet software, visit Shareware.comShareware.com is a source for the latest Internet applications with ratings and reviews to help you decide which application is best suited for you needs.  An FTP tutorial is also available for beginner users who may not be familiar with FTP.
Back  3.  You have unlimited access via FTP 24 hours a day.  As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your Website at your leisure.
Back  4.  Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes.  The World Wide Web has become the most efficient and cost effective means of making information available to the users of the Internet community and we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium.
Back  5.  New accounts are generally set up within 24 hours from the time we receive your order.  Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent to you via email including your user-ID, password, and FTP hostname.  You can begin uploading files to your new Website immediately.  Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or domain modification.
Back  6.  Yes, we encourage our customers in need of assistance to send email to kenbroome@kenbroome.com with questions or concerns about their Website.  However, we provide technical support only.  We cannot provide help with HTML syntax or CGI programming problems.  Technical support is offered seven days a week including holidays.
Back  7.  Yes, we do allow you to create subdirectories which you can use to offer friends or client's space as long as its within our policy guidelines.  You can also request additional FTP accounts with limited access to a specific directory for a small additional setup charge.  We do not point domains to subdirectories of a main domain.
Back  8.  Yes, with our Site Builder Developer Account we do offer this feature which gives you full administration control to setup additional clients for your domain.
Back  9.  Yes, for a one time $25.00 setup fee for each additional domain we can mirror your main web pages and mail system.  This is a great way to expand the marketing of your present business.
Back 10.  Yes, we can give you a third level domain name such as yourname.koyotehill.com or if you have an existing domain with us anyname.yourdomain.com.  The packages are the same as the one posted for normal domains.  The advantage to these is InterNIC registration is not needed.  This means no InterNIC registration fees.
Back 11.  Yes, for an additional one time setup fee you can add additional login accounts.  See price schedule listed.  There are no monthly charges for the above add-ons.
Back 12.  The InterNIC is an independent organization responsible for holding the registration and routing of Internet domain names.  Without these people, it would be virtually impossible to maintain sanity on the Internet.  Registration fee is $70.00 for the first two years and $35.00 per year thereafter for your virtual domain name.  The InterNIC will send you an invoice via email between 3-4 weeks after the domain is registered.
Back 13.  An email warning will be sent before this actually occurs.  You may purchase extra traffic at $2.00 per 100 megs or $20.00 per gig.
Back 14.  Yes, you can purchase extra space at $1.50 per month for an additional 10 megs.
Back 15.  Yes, each domain has its own CGI-bin.  We monitor only for poorly written scripts that may become resource hogs.
Back 16.   Yes, SSI's will parse on any page ending in .sht or .shtml, rather than the usual .htm or .html.
Back 17.  Yes, we currently house domains from over 100 countries.  For none InterNIC domains you will need to file the registration with your local NIC services.
Back 18.  Currently jdk 1.1.5 is installed on all servers.  At present we do not support java servlets.
Back 19.   Majordomo is a full featured mailing list program that allows your customer the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe.  This type of list is particularly designed as a method of interaction, and can be run as a closed or open, moderated or not.  As the list owner you can control all email allowed to be distributed to the list.
Back 20.  Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name.  Example:  [http://www.yourname.com] or [http://yourname.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer.
Back 21.  No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your Website and retrieve email addressed to your site.  If you have any questions concerning your current Internet access and whether or not it will comply with Zone Internet's web services, please contact us via email.
Back 22.  Yes, we do backups of your home and www directories 3 times per week.  There is a small charge to pull a backup when requested.
Back 23.   Yes, we will contact the InterNIC once your account is activated to request either a new domain name registration or a domain name modification (transferring an existing domain to our servers).  Please DO NOT submit a registration or modification template to the InterNIC as this may delay the process of transferring your account.
Back 24.  Yes, but be sure to specify that you are requesting a TRANSFER and NOT a NEW DOMAIN.  You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process.  We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server.  All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site.  When InterNIC announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site.  At the end of the 72 hours you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record.  If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.  When we file a modification, one of the current listed contacts must ok the move.  InterNIC will send a domain completed.  If the contact email on your domain has changed from the time you originally registered it, you will need to fax an authorization to complete the process using a tracking number we will provide upon request.
Back 25.  We always try to implement and use the latest hardware innovations.  Currently, all domains are being hosted on dual Pentium II 400/450 Mghz.  The operating system is a customized version of Redhat with the powerful Apache Web Server.
Back 26.  Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72 hours before it is active.  All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect to the new sites location.
Back  27.   FrontPage extensions are CGI programs that provide the server side implementation of FrontPage. FrontPage communicates with the extensions via HTTP using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC). When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to the FrontPage server extensions it simply directs the request to the appropriate CGI program. The extensions implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, ToDo lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and administrator privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time WebBot components). Without the FrontPage server extensions you will not be able to take advantage of the WebBots that are available throughout  MS FrontPage. You also cannot author and administer your site using the tools provided as part of the FrontPage Editor/Explorer package.
Back 28.  WebBots are the mechanism for invoking many of the interactive features built into FrontPage. These features are added to your site through the FrontPage Editor | Insert WebBot component
Some, such as ''Include'' and ''Substitution'' allow elements of your site to be entered once and included in any or all of the pages by inserting the Bot component referencing that element (e.g., a logo or navigation bar). Changes made to the 'master' element are made automatically to any page containing the referencing Bot.
Other Bots, such as Search, Table of Contents and Timestamp, control dynamic browse-time features. These Bots work behind the scenes to keep your site up-to-date for visitors.
Back 29.  New Accounts: Check the box on the order form indicating that you want the FrontPage extensions. New domains that request FrontPage extensions when placing their order, will have the extensions installed within 24 hours.

Existing Accounts: To have the FrontPage server extensions installed on your existing site, email support@axxs.net with the following information:
Your domain name
Your user ID
Your request for FrontPage extensions
Back 30.  Yes. We support Microsoft FrontPage in several ways:

  2. We provide Technical Support related to the functionality of the extensions.
